MB Aerospace’s sister company MB Faber Ltd has secured a significant contract from one of the world’s leading aircraft manufacturing companies.
The Leyland-based mechanical and electrical engineering design company, has been appointed by Airbus to support the development of the new A350 XWB (extra wide-body) passenger aircraft.
MB Faber will work alongside Airbus engineers at the Broughton facility to develop test equipment that will support the advanced manufacturing techniques required for the A350XWB aircraft. With the capacity to seat 200 to 350 passengers, the new long-haul, twin-engine A350XWB is due to enter service in 2013 and Airbus has already received a number of orders for the aircraft, including one from Singapore Airlines.
Established in 1988, MB Faber employs over 100 staff and has a long standing relationship with Airbus. The company recently completed a contract to design and project manage the supply of the operational tooling which was used in the manufacture of the wings for the A380 super passenger aircraft.
It is also nearing the completion of another significant contract to provide design and project management services and supply the operational tooling for use on the A400M.
Ian Eaves, general manager of MB Faber Ltd, said: “This is the latest in a number of contracts that we’ve secured from Airbus and I’m delighted that we, as a company, will be contributing to the development of what is set to be another major advancement in modern commercial aircraft.
“Our design and engineering teams will be working closely with the Airbus facility in Broughton throughout the duration of this contract which is not only a tremendous boost for the company, but it serves to highlight Airbus’ confidence in our ability and expertise.”
